DIY “Catsicles”

Last week we gave you some ideas for frozen, yummy summer treats for your dog, but why can’t your cats also join in on the fun?
We all know drinking only water can get boring, so whether you have an outdoor cat that is trying to beat the summer heat or an indoor kitty you’re trying to spoil, any cat will surely love these frozen treat ideas!

Frozen Tuna Popsicles (courtesy of moderncat.com)

You will need:

  • An ice cube tray
  • Can of water packed tuna or salmon (no or low sodium)
  • ~ ½ cup water
  • Mixing bowl or blender
  • Ziploc bag

Directions:

  1. Mash tuna in a bowl or in a blender (don’t drain water from the can, this will help make the popsicles)
  2. Add water to mix and fill Ziploc bag with it
  3. Cut a hole in the bottom corner and fill ice cube tray with the mixture
  4. Place in freezer for 4 hours or overnight (can last in the freezer for up to 6 months)
  5. Pop out of the tray and let your cat enjoy!

You will need:

  • Special cat milk (not kitten milk)
  • ½ can wet food (pate style)
  • Ziploc bags and a larger bag (gallon bag is best)
  • ~ ½ cup Plain, Kosher or rock salt
  • Ice (3 trays or more)

Directions:

  1. Place milk and ½ can of wet food in a bag (seal tightly) and mix well by hand
  2. Put the bag with the mixture in it into a second bag and place in a larger bag that contains ice and some salt
  3. Seal the bag and roll around the bag for ~15 minutes
  4. Take out inner bag and scoop out ice cream
  5. Treat your kitty and save the rest in the freezer

If your cat has more of an adventurous palate and loves bananas, they will surely love these!

You will need:

  • 4 bananas mashed
  • ¼ cup of kibble (your cat’s favourite or some treats)
  • Ice cube tray or candy mold

Directions:

  1. Peel bananas and discard peels. Mash them completely in bowl or mixer
  2. Layer mashed bananas and kibble in ice cube tray or candy mold
  3. Place in freezer and allow to freeze overnight
  4. Pop out of tray and give to your cat to enjoy!

Frozen cat treats an easy, cheap, and fun way to treat your kitties this summer. Outdoor cats will be happy to cool down in this heat or your indoor cat will have lots of fun playing with them. Your cat will also love you forever when you put on your creative hat and have fun with spoiling them this summer!
