Animal Rescue in KW

From fostering to rescuing, to getting down and cleaning cages, the people of Kitchener-Waterloo have a strong tradition of donating their time and energy to the welfare of animals in need. If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to get more involved in the local animal community, and you’re not sure where to start, here are some organizations and programs you may not know about that operate locally, and could always use an extra hand!

Pet Patrol: Cat Adoption and Rescue

Entirely volunteer-run and a registered non-profit, Pet Patrol is a network of foster homes for cats. Fostering can allow a cat’s personality to bloom in a way that they may not be able to in a shelter situation. Pet Patrol makes sure that each cat is spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and in general good health before they are put up for adoption. Each applicant for the cats are also vetted, to make sure that they are a good fit for the individual cat, before they are taken home.

Pet Patrol is currently looking for people to open up their homes to fostering a cat, or volunteers for event planning, drivers, visiting cats that are auditioning for adoption at PetValu, etc. Check them out at http://www.petpatrol.ca/!

Taffy’s Legacy

Another foster-based rescue, Taffy’s Legacy rescues most of their dogs from the International Fund for Animal Welfare, and other remote areas in Northern Ontario and Quebec. Spanning across Southern Ontario, foster parents work with each dog between 1 – 4 months on average, helping them to adjust to their new environment, working on their training, caring for their physical and mental health, and so much more! Taffy’s Legacy makes sure that each dog is spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested, and vaccinated.

You can help Taffy’s Legacy in all sorts of ways! They look for fosters, sponsors, and volunteers. Find out more at https://www.taffyslegacy.com/about-us!
