At Dog Gone Walking & Cat Care, we form amazing bonds with our clients, over the years of visiting and getting to know all their quirks and unique personalities.

It seems that every time you get up from the couch, BAM, your dog or cat is in your spot on the couch. Have you ever wondered why?

There are many reasons why your dog or cat will do this, one is a sign of respect, a sign of love, as well as a learned behavour. Finally, where you were smells like you.

The first reason a dog or cat may sell your spot is a sign of respect. Since your pet sees you as the master your spot is the prime spot when you leave your dog/cat sees this as holding your spot for you.

The second reason your dog may steal your spot is, seeking your attention and expressing love. Both cats and dogs will try and go on or steal your spot to get love and affection from you.

Your pet may also steal your spot is that this is a learned behavior, getting love such as scratches or snuggles when they have leaned into your seat.

The final reason your animal will sit where you were is that it smells like you. Cats and dogs are guided by smell when something smells strongly like there owners they are likely to go to it to feel closer to you.

Like many creatures, cats are largely guided by their sense of smell; and if an item has your scent, they like to be near it because it makes them feel safe and happy
