Things to do and safety for your pets this Halloween

Fun Things to do

This is the perfect time of year to go out and stay with your pets and family in Waterloo. Here are some fun events to do with your pet and your family:

  1. Go on a hike in St Jacobs, as it is cool, it becomes the perfect temperature for your pet to go on a longer hike. There are lots to see there including enjoying the fall decorations.
  2. Go Pumpkin picking, as most places are outdoors it is nice to take your whole family to choose and carve the perfect pumpkin!
  3. Take your pet trick or treating this year, dressing up your dog in silly costumes and bringing them out is a fun way them to be involved.
  4. Halloween movie marathon. What’s better than snuggling up on the couch with your best friend and watching a scary movie?

Safety Concerns on Halloween

As Halloween approaches, we must remember and be aware of all safety concerns for our pets. A couple of things to remember this Halloween:

  1. Chocolate is toxic for dogs, keep all candy (especially chocolate) away from your furry family members this time of year.
  2. Ensure you don’t leave your dog in the back yard, or in the car. Instead, bring them with you trick or treating or leave them in the house.
  3. Keep your pet away from the door if you are handing out candies this Halloween, many dogs are protective over their homes it is better to keep them away from the door to reduce stress.
  4. Keep cats and dogs away from lit candles, pumpkins or animatronic toys this season to ensure your pet doesn’t get hurt or knock it over.
  5. Ensure costumes fit properly (Not too big or too small)
