Taffy’s Legacy Adoptable of the Month for March

Dog Gone Walking is proud to be partnering with Taffy’s Legacy, a local dog rescue, to match adoptable dogs with their perfect human. Over the years, we have seen the love and joy that rescues can bring to everyone around them, and we firmly believe that all dogs deserve a home to call their own. We hope that this partnership with Taffy’s Legacy will bring us one step closer to finding every dog their furever family.

This month, we want to introduce you to Colton, the 10 month old husky, and our March Adoptable of the Month!

Colton working on his on-leash walks!

Colton is your typical husky: spunky, a little vocal, and always looking for his next big adventure. He’ll need physical and mental stimulation to keep him busy, but he’s a smart boy who is well-behaved once he understands what the rules of the house are. He’s super friendly, and great with other dogs, kids, and even cats! He sometimes doesn’t realize how big of a boy he is and can knock over small kids by mistake, so supervision is recommended!

Colton is an epileptic, which means that he does have seizures. He was diagnosed with epilepsy on January 13th after having two seizures a month apart. From January 13th until March 1st, Colton was seizure-free, but unfortunately, on March 1st, Colton did have a cluster seizure. Taffy’s Legacy are currently working with a neurologist to help get his medications at the right dose to help manage his seizure activity. One thing most people don’t know is that huskies are actually one of the most common breeds to have epilepsy and one of the hardest ones to control.

Colton is slowly learning to be calm around the house!

Colton’s foster mom says:

“Colton can come off as a crazy husky puppy, and definitely did when he first came into my home, but he has calmed down tremendously in the house and has become quite the gentleman. I will admit, I don’t typically find myself falling for huskies, but Colton has wiggled his way into my heart.

All I can ask is for someone to look past his seizures and see what an incredible boy he is, and just how much potential he truly has. Once he is on the right medications, he may have years without having any issues, and let’s be honest, with him, you know he has epilepsy now rather then it being a surprise down the line!”

Colton is:

  • House and crate-trained
  • Good with dogs
  • Good with cats
  • Good with kids (with supervision)
  • Good on a transitional slip-lead
  • Has epilepsy (managed with medication)

Colton doesn’t let being a special-needs dog slow him down. If you’re willing to take on this handsome and awesome husky, he will be sure to give you back that love in spades!

If you’re unable to adopt, please consider donating towards Colton’s vet bill. The current estimate for his vet bill is $1500 – $2500, and Taffy’s Legacy welcomes any amount you can put towards this bill.
