Don’t let this winter be ‘ruff’ on your pets. Take the necessary precautions to enjoy dog walking in the winter elements and have a fun and enjoyable winter!
- Make sure your dog always wears an ID tag when your are walking your dog. Winter is the most common time for dogs to become lost.
- Use lights for winter visibility. Consider a light up collar or reflective coat for dog walking.
- Avoid letting your dog off the leash during a snowstorm because dogs can lose their scent and easily become lost.
- When your dog comes in from outside, wipe off his legs, paws, and belly. They could ingest salt or other potentially dangerous chemicals while licking themselves dry.
- After bathing your dog in the wintertime, be sure to completely dry him before letting him go outside.
- Never leave your dog in the car during cold weather months — he could quickly freeze to death.
- Active dogs may need a little more food in the winter. Increased protein will give your dog the best winter conditioning.
- Put paw cream on to protect paws from the cold & salt. Coconut oil is a great natural moisturizer & barrier.
- Set up an indoor scavenger hunt with your dogs own food.
