Good Scouts Are Always Prepared!

When you set out for your outdoor adventures a good scout will be prepared!  This is not limited to your safety, but consider your dog’s as well.  I too am an avid hiker, and where I go the pup goes. It’s important to make sure you have the right equipment for them as well.  There are many ways you can keep you and your pooch safe.  Here’s a couple tips on things you can pack!

Safety first!  You bring your first aid kit, but consider bringing a few things along in case of doggy emergencies as well.  Coban Wrap (also known as Vet Wrap) is a great tool for bandaging a dog’s wound.  It’s rocky in our great province, and can be easy for pups to cut their paws on.  The heat is a culprit too.  Hot rock and asphalt can scrape your dog’s pads.  Before walking on it with them, try taking your shoe off and testing the heat for yourself!  Of course, another solution to this problem is to get your pup a good pair of hiking boots!

Some of our beautiful greenery can also have some pests lurking around. Bugs can be nasty and ruin the fun, and it seems like they target the dog sometimes!  However, please avoid using the chemicals if you can.  There are lots of dog safe bus sprays out there that are completely natural! Another trick is to buy some citrusy dog cologne, works like a charm!

Heading to the lake?  Packing life jackets for you and the kids?  Grab one for the dog too!  Despite some dog’s great swimming abilities, you never know what could happen on the boat ride.  They get tired too, and could use the extra support from the flotation devise.

There is so much fun to be had in the summer!  Now that it’s coming to an end, I hope everyone is able to get out and soak up the last pieces of it!  Remember the needs of your furry family when out and about. They don’t always know how to slow down and take a break from the fun, but they are very lucky to have you to care for them.  I hope this has been helpful for you!  As always, stay safe.  We are here to help with your critter needs as you embark on your last summer adventures of this year!
