Yes, that’s right! February 20th is Love Your Pet Day! We love our pets year-round, of course, but most of us love having an excuse to indulge our pets a little bit more than usual. However you want to celebrate is up to you, but here are some fun, weird, or outrageous ways others have shown their pets some extra love!
Some cat wine for you, Fluffy?
If you’ve ever seen cats going crazy over catnip, the next step up would be giving them a glass of Apollo Peak’s non-alcoholic cat wine! These cat wines are available in a couple different flavours, and rely on catnip, valerian, or silvervine (or a combination of the three) to give cats a little boost. Effects can range from increased playfulness to mild sedation, depending on the cat. The wines, like catnip and similar stimulants, are non-addictive, and the company claims that the effect should wear off in roughly 10 minutes. Cat parents can choose between flavours like Pinot Meow, MosCATo, White Kittendel, and Catbernet.
If nothing else, cats on cat wine make for excellent YouTube content.
Doga: Yoga with dogs, and for dogs
Yogis and dog lovers, rejoice! Toronto’s very own To Bloom Yoga offers Doga, a 60 minute yoga session with your dog! A great way to help you and your pup relax, the session includes posing, stretching, and meditation with your dog, as well as a relaxing massage from you to your dog. Hopefully, Doga practitioners will find a deeper connection with their canine friends!
Outrageous luxury: D Pet Hotels
For some, absolutely no expense will be spared when it comes to pampering their pets. With six locations in the States, D Pet Hotels offers luxuries for dogs that would make the average human green with envy. Dogs stay in suites (yes, suites) that range from rooms with a simple doggie bed and flatscreen TV, to fully decorated rooms with a full-sized queen bed and a 42-inch flat screen TV. The hotels all include on-ground dog parks and spas. Some locations even offer a personal chef who will cook two meals a day for their guests. To top it all off, some locations will offer chauffeur services for you dog in luxury cars, such as Lambourghinis, Ferraris, or a Rolls Royce, should you be unable to pick-up or drop off your dog.
Kikur Tihar: Day of the Dogs
The Nepalese are no strangers to celebrating the relationship between people and dogs. Kikur Tihar is a part of a five-day-long Hindu festival, and lands on the second day of celebrations. Both strays and pets alike are venerated on this day, and are given a wreath of flowers and marked with a Tika, or a red mark on their foreheads. The dogs are, of course, given food as well, which can range from good quality dog food, to meat, eggs, and milk.
The Golden Retriever Festival in Scotland
Run by the Golden Retriever Club of Scotland, the Golden Retriever festival is a celebration of Goldens in their ancestral birthplace. Owners of Golden Retrievers gather from all over in appreciation for this coveted breed, breaking numbers for the largest gathering of Golden Retrievers every year. With dog shows and dancing galore, fans of the breed consider this festival heaven on earth.
