DIY Frosty Treats for Your Pooch This Summer!

Don’t leave your four-legged friends hanging with only plain ol’ water to keep them cooled down this summer. Spice things up with these super-simple sweet treat recipes. The frozen delights will help everyone stay chill while the temperature climbs higher. Some look so good, you might want to grab a spoonful for yourself!

Pumpkin Frosty Paws (via thedogmom)

Ingredients:

2 bananas
2 Tablespoons peanut butter
2 Tablespoons honey
4 Tablespoons pumpkin
24 ounces fat free vanilla yogurt
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions:

In a mixing bowl, combine all of the above ingredients. Puree with a hand mixer until the banana is in fine chunks. Spoon the puree into ice cube trays until just full. Tap trays on the counter to remove any air bubbles and to smooth out the surface. Put trays into the ice box and freeze for several hours or until completely set. Keep frozen until time to enjoy!

Greek Yogurt Melts (via thecaninechef)

Ingredients:

low fat plain greek yogurt
optional, fruit (try blueberries!)

Instructions:

Place yogurt (if adding fruit, mix yogurt and fruit in a blender first) in a baker’s piping bag and pipe drops onto a foil or wax paper lined baking sheet. Don’t worry about the drops all matching in size because your dog really won’t notice. You can use a baggie by snipping a corner.

Place baking sheet in freezer until yogurt has frozen.

Remove to freezer safe plastic container or ziplock bags and store in the freezer.

Bacon and Peanut Butter Ice Cream (via thecookierookie)

Ingredients:

1 cup creamy natural peanut butter

1 cup plain yogurt

1/4 cup bacon bits

Instructions:

Mix all ingredients together, freeze, and serve on a warm day!

Vita Veggie Mashup (via thecaninechef)

Ingredients:

2 large chopped green peppers

1 peeled chopped cucumber

1 large bunch kale, stems removed

1 (12 oz) bag butternut squash

1 (12 oz) bag broccoli & cauliflower

1 (12 oz) bag green beans

Instructions:

Chop up the green peppers and peeled cucumber. Puree in a food processor or blender. Pour into a large bowl

Lightly cook the remaining produce in a large pot until tender. Strain.

Puree in a food processor or blender. Pour into the bowl and stir until thoroughly mixed

This can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 months. I like to freeze it in small silicone molds, or ice trays, and place in a freezer ziplock bag. Take out what you need, let thaw, and stir into your dog’s meal or pour over kibble. It can also be served by itself as a cool drink or warm soup.
