April showers bring May flowers but did you know…Some of our plants are not only dangerous but poisonous for our pets.

Who doesn’t love spring after a long dark cold winter. The rain arrives with the promise of spring flowers, longer days and warmer weather. Walking our dogs has never been more enjoyable with the promise of summer on the horizon. However, along with spring comes some caution as we select our summer plants for our backyards.

Spring Tulips are one of the most popular plants come springtime, but they can cause big problems for curious canines. The plant and flower are toxic, but the bulbs are especially dangerous when consumed and who knew that the daffodil was also on the danger list. Another surprising plant that seems to grow abundantly is the Tiger Lily. So the next time you are out dog walking or selecting plants for your summer yard, look around and steer clear of some of these innocent looking plants that can cause unsuspecting harm to your pets.

On a positive note there are also many plants that are pet friendly and don’t pose a threat to pets. Check out the list of pet friendly plants. You can still have a beautiful garden with a wide variety of pet friendly plants, many of which bring colour and comfort to brighten our spring and summer days.
