Allergies in Dogs

Spring is such an exciting time of year! Though it may be icky outside, the smell of the fresh air and sunshine coming though can really lift spirits. Especially after the winter we’ve had!

Even though the sunshine is finally shining through, it’s also a time to have concern about some allergies that may arise. This is something that can affect our pets as well, as they can be just as sensitive as we are to the environment. Remember to look for signs of discomfort after walks and outside time.

Most allergies in dogs appear through the skin. Symptoms like itching, biting and redness can be a sign of an allergy. Try checking your dogs belly for any irritations.

Once an allergy has been realized it can be difficult to determine what exactly caused it. Environmental is highly possible, but it is also possible to be the food they are eating.

“Since many of the signs and symptoms of allergies in dogs are not unique to either type of allergy, treatment may require a bit of educated trial and error to pinpoint the exact cause of your dog’s allergy.”

If your dog appears to be struggling lately with scratching or other irritations, please consult your vet. A visit to the vet can help you start the process in properly diagnosing the allergy.
